The Challenge

For this spec, I wanted to get some experience writing a product description for a piece of art. The one I chose for this exercise is an oil painting on canvas from ArtGalleryEU.com that depicts several antelope standing in a stream in very soft light.

The Approach

I went back through my previous notes on what the benefit of a specific piece of art is, and married this to what I remembered from art classes. I researched the target audience, and most of all, I asked myself how this painting made the viewer feel. I took notes on the mood and the overall feeling of this painting. It’s a very soft, soothing piece. It captures a moment of nature in early light, and that led me to thinking about getting up in the early morning and watching nature wake up around me with the singing of birds. There’s a sense of tranquility to the scene, and my goal was to communicate that in this description.
